Fundación El Barcelona Sporting Club, el "Ídolo del Astillero", el mayor exponente del fútbol ecuatoriano, es fundado el 1º de mayo de 1925 en la ciudad de Guayaquil. Su creación surge del entusiasmo de un grupo de jóvenes del Bario del Astillero, conocidos como: "La gallada de la Modelo", que decidieron formar un club deportivo multidisciplinario, en la casa del catalán Eutimio Pérez, que tendría en Carlos García Ríos, ilustre ecuatoriano, su primer Presidente y en el Sr. Onofre Castells, español de Cataluña, su primer Presidente Honorario.
